On January 15, 1948, 19 Chinese students studying agricultural engineering in the United States convened the first preparatory meeting of the "Chinese Society of Agricultural Engineers" in Stockton, California. Due to historical circumstances, the First National Congress of the Chinese Society of Agricultural Engineering was held in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province in 1979, formally establishing the society.
The Chinese Society of Agricultural Engineering is a national-level academic society affiliated with the China Association for Science and Technology and serves as a national member of the International Commission of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering (CIGR). As an academic, comprehensive, and public welfare-oriented scientific and technological organization, the society unites and organizes agricultural engineering professionals through various activities. It promotes innovation and prosperity in agricultural engineering science and technology, strengthens the dissemination and application of agricultural engineering knowledge, accelerates the growth and development of scientific and technological talents, and acts as a bridge connecting the Party and the government with agricultural engineering professionals. The society serves as an advisor and assistant to the state in developing agricultural and agricultural engineering science and technology, and is a crucial social force driving agricultural and rural economic development.
The society currently operates 30 branches, encompassing six specialized working committees focused on academic exchange, international collaboration, science dissemination, consulting services, educational development, and youth scientist engagement. Additionally, it has established 24 professional committees and divisions spanning diverse disciplines, including agricultural informatics and electrical engineering, agricultural remote sensing technology, agricultural mechanization and equipment innovation, rural planning and design engineering, protected horticulture systems, seed industry equipment engineering, agricultural resource management, environmental protection, and energy engineering, agricultural product processing and preservation technologies, agricultural systems engineering methodologies, digital rural development initiatives, animal husbandry engineering solutions, agricultural soil and water conservation engineering, agricultural engineering standardization protocols, land utilization optimization, integrated mountainous resource development, aquaculture engineering practices, castor economic and technological advancement, agricultural aviation applications, academic publishing and editorial services, agricultural product logistics optimization, big data analytics in agriculture, agricultural product quality and nutritional engineering, artificial intelligence and agricultural robotics integration, and smart cultivated land utilization and conservation strategies. The society boasts a membership exceeding 10,000 professionals. Across the nation, 23 provinces, autonomous regions, and municipalities directly under the central government have established their respective agricultural engineering societies.
The Chinese Society of Agricultural Engineering (CSAE) publishes the following academic publications: Transactions of the CSAE (《农业工程学报》), Agricultural Engineering Technology (《农业工程技术》), and the CSAE Newsletter (《中国农业工程学会会讯》), along with related conference proceedings and technical compilations.
The Secretariat of the Chinese Society of Agricultural Engineering is located at the Academy of Agricultural Planning and Engineering, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs.
